Simmenau is a family-owned farm nestled in the Khomas Hochland mountains, approximately 60 km southwest of Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek. With Dutch roots spanning several generations, the Lambrechts family has called Simmenau home since 1967.
What began as a traditional working cattle farm has, over time, naturally evolved into something truly unique.
Animals here are not raised in isolation — they grow up together, as a family.

Over the years, Simmenau became widely known for its distinctive approach to the rehabilitation and rewilding of orphaned wildlife. Animals here are not raised in isolation but grow up together as a family, forming deep bonds and living in remarkable harmony — whether warthog, meerkat, dog or baboon.
This extraordinary way of life gained international attention when the family’s son, Ruben, shared their story with the world on social media.
31 years of family
Cindy’s legacy
It all started when millions of people around the globe fell in love with Cindy, an orphaned baboon who became part of the family for 31 years. Rescued as an infant, Cindy lived a life filled with love and purpose, helping to raise many other orphaned animals — especially her beloved warthogs.
Her story touched hearts worldwide before she passed away in December 2025 after a long battle with heart failure, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, connection and care.

Opening our doors
As global interest in Simmenau’s way of life grew, the family decided to open their doors to guests, offering an intimate farmstay experience unlike any other in Namibia.
Alongside the working cattle farm, the family continues to care for orphaned wildlife and has established a foundation dedicated to supporting animals and people in need across Namibia.
